The Alpine Medical Clinic was established in 1989. In 2004, the clinic moved to the Bison Courtyard, an eco friendly building, located on Bear Street. We are committed to providing timely, friendly and a professional service to all residents from the Bow Valley, outlying communities and visitors to Banff.
Dr. Steve Shigeishi went to medical school at Queen’s university in Kingston, Ontario, and was drawn out west by the mountains, and completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Calgary in 2002.
He been with the clinic since the summer of 2003, and has been hiking, biking and skiing out here ever since.
Dr. Fowke, Co-founder of the Alpine Medical Clinic trained at the Royal Free Hospital School of medicine qualifying in 1982. In Glasgow, Scotland she completed her General Practitioner and Obstetrical training before moving to Canada with her husband in 1985. In 1988 the family moved to Banff and started the Alpine Medical Clinic soon after.
Dr. Zuzana Triska studied medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and completed her training in family medicine at the University of Calgary. As a physiotherapist in her previous career, she has a special interest in musculoskeletal and sports medicine, and offers advanced treatment techniques such as ultrasound guided injections including prolotherapy and PRP. Her other special interest is in low risk obstetrics, maternity and newborn care. In her free time she enjoys mountain biking and skiing, as well as spending time with her young family.
Dr. James Clem studied medicine at the University of Toronto before coming to the province of Alberta and completing his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary. He has fallen in love with the Rocky Mountains and Banff has become his launchpad for adventures in the mountains.
Dr. Ian Macdonald, Co-founder of the Alpine Medical Clinic is now enjoying his well-deserved retirement. Ian is spending his days golfing or skiing and enjoying the community he helped care for.
Laura joined the clinic in 2004 when she made to move to the Bow Valley after graduating from McMaster University. Laura is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys mountain biking, climbing, skiing and horseback riding with her husband and two young sons (proudly delivered by Dr. Fowke)
Alissa completed her nursing education and training in Edmonton. Having been raised in the small community of Kimberley, B.C. she missed the mountains and is so happy to be working at Alpine with all the beauty around us. When she’s not working, you can find Alissa out with her best friend, her dog Kootenay, exploring the amazing hikes in the area or paddling our wonderful waters.

Rebeccah can be seen in the clinic from Thursdays to Sundays. Rebeccah brings with her extensive knowledge of derm procedures, lumps and bumps. Rebeccah loves “all things skin.”
When Rebeccah isn’t in the clinic, she is working on her company “Darken the Mountains” a grassroots initiative to increase individuals from racialized communities who want to experiment with mountain sports. Rebeccah works with Local guides to mentor to teach people to recreate safely in the mountains.
Rebeccah is currently on an indeterminate leave off exploring Australia.
